Limay Medio River

"Magical and mysterious Patagonia Argentina fly fishing trout waters."

Migratory Brown Trout on the Limay Medio River
Absolutely gorgeous! The Limay Medio River holds, for sure, the trout of a lifetime!
The Limay River begins its course as effluent of the Nahuel Huapi Lake, in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. This river runs for about 400 km to its confluence with the Neuquén River, where the Negro River is born.
Along it there are 5 dams, which have created large reservoirs. The middle section of the Limay River starts downstream of its third dam, called "Pichi Picún Leufú", near the small town Piedra del Aguila, popularly known as Limay Medio River (Middle Limay River). There is where we provide our Patagonia Argentina Fly Fishing Services. 3 days town programs, 3 or 4 days with 2 or 3 riverside camp overnights. Lots of options for this destination!
Wide and bended, the Limay Medio River (Middle Limay River) is framed by an arid and semi-desert landscape, which transforms it into a typical steppe river. It has an extension of approximately 80 km, pouring is water into the Exequiel Ramos Mejía reservoir.
The Limay Medio River (Middle Limay River) has an extraordinary population of Brown Trouts and Rainbow Trouts, both resident and migratory, highly combative and very healthy, which make it one of the most productive rivers in Northern Patagonia. Without a doubt, the reason for such high productivity is the large amount of fodder and insects, which we can find there given the characteristics of the river, and are part of the main diet of its magnificent Trouts.
The Limay Medio River (Middle Limay River) has been popularized -among others Patagonia Argentina fly fishing destination- by migratory Brown Trout fishing, featuring real trophies, unique in Northern Patagonia and the main reason why most of our customers choose this destination. Main migration of these brown trout is due to their spawn period during Argentine fall. However, a less known phenomenon that also makes, both Brown and Rainbow Trout, migrate from the lake towards the river is a minnow migration that comes back into the river after its spawning season are vehemently chased by the biggies. Difficult and demanding, this kind of fishing will reward the most persistent anglers with trouts that may be, in some cases, more than 25 inches and 6 pounds.
If that is not enough, the Limay Medio River (Middle Limay River) has one other attraction: the action of its fighting resident Brown and Rainbow Trouts all along the river and throughout the whole the season. They are always willing to take a delicate dry fly or small nymph as well as a big attractor, putting you on the backing in a few seconds.
Magical and mysterious, the Limay Medio River (Middle Limay River) has many options and water structures to fish throughout the season, giving way both for those who are looking for fine and delicate dry fly fishing as well as those who are in search for "THE" trout of their lives. The Limay Medio River is unique place, without a doubt ...
